Presidents Rostrum - Welcome back to another exciting year of hockey.

I hope everyone has had a great Easter Break and is ready for another wave of hockey to begin. I would like to extend a warm welcome to all new committee and playing members. For those who don’t know me, my name is Palkesh Kanji and I have been voted your new club President this year. I have been a member of the NHISC for 5 years, played hockey for our top two teams, and am playing in the young Cobras Development team this year as an old experienced injury prone player!

My goal this year is to encourage and support the development of all members, from players to coaches. I hope to bring a successful year for the 2009 season. The season has started 4 weeks ago and we have 6 Men’s Teams in this year’s competition. Our Premier Team this year has the services of international player Blair Hoping as player/coach, with NHL Rep Chris Lee assistant coach, and NHL Rep Jan Peterson the Premier Reserve Coach.
I would like to welcome our new Black sticks member Andy Hayward to the Club. Our Premier and Reserve sides each have many Under 18 North Harbour representatives and it is good to see the youngsters come up from the club ranks and play top level hockey. To all of these players; well done and
keep up the good work.

Welcome back to James “Jurassic” Park-y after his short trip over the ditch. I believe his hunger for another hockey season with the club drew him back and he has been a fantastic player that has been in the premier team not long after the team was promoted to the Premier Grade.

I would like everyone to please come and show your support and encourage our fellow club players and I look forward to seeing you all at the games.
The newsletter contains a hockey draw of when each of the teams is playing. Hockey Subs should be issued in a few weeks and there will be a slight increase to fees due to Harbour Hockey increasing their Subs plus other rises. We would appreciate that the fees are paid ASAP. The Club is also
looking for a new Secretary as Ian Smith has stepped down. It is vitally important that the club has one! Lastly, Alan Dickie (Doc) has resigned from the committee. He has being on the committee for a number of years and on behalf of all club members, thank you for all the work you have done for the club.

I wish all the teams the best of luck, take care, play hard and give it your best on the hockey field!
